Allahumma Inni Asbahtu Usyhiduka Meaning and Arabic

Allahumma inni asbahtu usyhiduka is a du’a to recite four times in the morning. This morning dua is a comprehensive declaration of faith, incorporating the testimony of the supplicant and the witnessing of various entities, both celestial and earthly.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ أُشْهِدُكَ وَأُشْهِدُ حَمَلَةَ عَرْشِكَ، وَمَلَائِكَتَكَ وَجَمِيعَ خَلْقِكَ، أَنَّكَ أَنْتَ اللهُ لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّداً عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ

Transliteration

Allahumma inni asbahtu ushhiduka wa ushhidu hamalata ‘arshika wa malaikataka wa jami’a khalqika bi-annaka antAllahu la ilaha illa anta wa anna Muhammadan ‘abduka wa rasuluka.

Allahumma Inni Asbahtu Usyhiduka Meaning in English

Allahumma inni asbahtu usyhiduk means O Allah, I have entered a new morning and call upon You and upon the bearers of Your Throne, upon Your angels and all creation to bear witness that surely You are Allah, there is none worthy of worship but You alone. You have no partners, and that Muhammad is Your slave and Your Messenger.

Narrated Anas ibn Malik: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: If anyone says in the morning: “O Allah! in the morning we call Thee, the bearers of Thy Throne, Thy angels, and all Thy creatures to witness that Thou art Allah than Whom there is no god, Thou being alone and without a partner, and that Muhammad is Thy servant and Thy Apostle,”

Allah will forgive him any sins that he commits that day; and if he repeats them in the evening. Allah will forgive him any sins he commits that night.

Explanation Of The Dua

I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness to the carriers of His throne and His angels. This is a confirmation, meaning that it is not sufficient to merely say ‘There is no god but Allah,’ but rather one testifies to Allah regarding this monotheism, affirming His oneness.

This can only come from someone who is convinced, seeking the presence of the heart when uttering such words, not spoken in heedlessness.

The person testifies to Allah’s acknowledgment and His oneness, and also bears witness to the carriers of His throne and His angels.

The bearers of the throne are among the greatest angels of the Merciful who carry the throne of Allah, the greatest of creatures, encompassing, sublime, majestic, beautiful, and closer to Allah – blessed and exalted.”

These angels are entrusted by Allah with this task, as He is independent of the throne and its carriers. None of His creation, neither angels nor others, can stand except by His permission.

However, undoubtedly, these are among the greatest, most magnificent, and strongest angels. Allah has chosen them to bear His throne.

I bear witness to You and bear witness to the carriers of Your throne. ‘I bear witness to You’ means: I make You a witness to this declaration of monotheism for You, as You are Allah. It is a testimony to Allah – blessed and exalted – for this oneness, an affirmation of this testimony, a confirmation of it, and a renewal of it every morning and evening.

The believer, with monotheism, repeats and affirms it when they wake up and when they go to sleep. Undoubtedly, this practice has a profound impact on the individual’s soul, on the soul of the monotheist.

It has a profound impact in terms of its result and its return to the servant in the reward of being saved from the Hellfire and entering Paradise. Indeed, this monotheism is the key to Paradise; the believer repeats it, reminding themselves with it.

Then he extended the statement to encompass all of your creation. All of creation includes the angels, humans, jinn, and all other creatures. When one utters such words, all creatures in the upper and lower worlds bear witness to it.

This specifically involves the carriers of the throne and the angels of the Merciful. After that, he presented this generalization, which requires a attentive heart to contemplate what is being said: What are these beings testifying to? On what matter?”

“He said: ‘That You are Allah,’ meaning the One worthy of worship, the One adored by creation. He is the One worshiped alone, without any other besides Him.

‘That You are Allah, there is no god except You,’ You are the One truly deserving of worship, there is no deity rightfully worshiped except You alone. This is a confirmation of this monotheism, affirming Your uniqueness in divinity, lordship, names, and attributes.”

“Then came the other affirmation: ‘There is no partner for You.’ This phrase, ‘There is no partner for You,’ confirms the negation aspect in the statement of monotheism:

‘There is no god.’ And his saying, ‘You are alone,’ is a confirmation of the affirmation aspect: ‘Except Allah.’ Here: ‘There is no god except You.'”

“Also, he presented the other testimony: ‘And Muhammad is Your servant and Messenger.’ Here, he emphasized the aspect of servitude, perhaps to prevent any exaggeration in his rights ﷺ, as happens with the Jews and Christians.
