Allahumma Rabba Hadhih

Simple Explanation Of This Dua

The Dua after the Adhan is a supplication recited by believers following the call to prayer (Adhan). Let’s break down the explanation:

  • Allahumma Rabba hadhihid-da’wati-tammah: “O Allah, Lord of this perfect call.” Refers to the call to prayer (Adhan) as a complete and comprehensive announcement.
  • Was-Salati-qa’imah: “and of the established prayer.” Indicates that the call to prayer signifies the commencement of the prayer.
  • Aati Muhammadanil-wasilata wal-fadilah: “Grant Muhammad the intercession and favour.” Asks Allah to bestow upon Prophet Muhammad SAW the highest level in paradise, known as Al-Wasilah, and a distinguished and elevated position (Fadilah).
  • Wab’athuhu maqaman mahmudanilladhi wa’adtahu: “And raise him to the honoured station You have promised him.” Refers to Allah’s promise in the Quran to elevate Prophet Muhammad to a station of praise and glory, as mentioned in Surah Al-Isra’ (17:79).
  • Verily you do not neglect promises: Affirms Allah’s faithfulness to His promises, emphasizing the believers’ trust in Allah’s commitment to fulfilling what He has pledged.

In essence, this Dua acknowledges the completeness of the call to prayer, seeks Allah’s blessings and intercession for Prophet Muhammad, and expresses confidence in Allah’s fulfillment of His promises regarding the Prophet’s elevated status.

Sheik Ibn Uthaimeen said in the explanation of Riyadus Saliheen:

  • Allahumma Rabba hadhihid-da’wati-tammah: It is a call towards Prayer and success; this is the most complete form of calls.
  • Was-Salati- qa’imah: that is, the Prayer that will be established. This is because the call is an announcement that the time of prayer has commenced.
  • Aati Muhammadanil-wasilata wal-fadilah.” That is, give him Al-Wasilah. Al-Wasilah is the highest level in paradise, and it is meant for the Prophet SAW.
  • Wal-Fadilah that is, a distinguished and high level above others, may the Peace and Blessings be upon him. Actually, that has happened to him.
  • Wab’athuhu maqaman mahmudanilladhi wa’adtahu; Allah has indeed promised him this in His statement:

“And in some parts of the night (also) offer the Salat (prayer) with it (i.e. recite the Qur’an in the prayer), as an additional prayer (Tahajjud optional prayer -Nawafil) for you (O Muhammad). It may be that your Lord will raise you to Maqam Mahmud (a station of praise and glory, i.e. the honour of intercession on the Day of Resurrection)”. Surah Al-Isra’: 79
