رَضِيْتُ بِاللّهِ رَبَّاً وَبِالْإِسْلاَمِ دِيْناً وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ (صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ) نَبِيّاً

Transliteration

The zikr is transliterated as Radeetu billaahi Rabban wa bil Islaami Deenan, wa bi Muhammadin (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallama) nabiyyan.

Narrated by al-Munaydhir (رضي الله عنه), I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: “Whoever reaches the morning and says:

Radeetu billaahi Rabban wa bil Islaami Deenan, wa bi Muhammadin (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallama) nabiyyan (I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, Islam as me religion and Muhammad as my Prophet,) then I am responsible to take him by his hand until he is entered into Paradise.”

Explanation

Shaykh Sulaiman al-Ruhayli said: Subhanallah. Just a few simple & easy words. If you are persistent in saying these words every morning, you will attain the greatest honour in that the Prophet (ﷺ) will take hold of your hand until you enter Paradise. And the meaning of this is that you will enter Paradise with the first ones to enter it.

Despite its brevity, this hadith holds a substantial reward for those who genuinely adhere to it, contemplate its meaning, and integrate it into their lives.

Reciting this supplication daily in the morning and evening serves as preparation for the day, reinforcing contentment with life’s unfolding events and aligning oneself with Allah’s decisions.

Contrarily, someone who utters this supplication but reacts with displeasure to calamities, rejects Islamic teachings, or disapproves of aspects from the Prophet’s (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) life displays hypocrisy—a contradiction between words and actions.

Living by this supplication becomes valuable in the afterlife, especially during the initial stages when questioned in the grave.

The answers to these questions—”Who is your Lord? What is your religion? Who is the Prophet sent to you?”—mirror the three matters affirmed every morning and evening.

The Prophet (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said that reciting this supplication three times in the morning and three times in the evening Allah takes it upon himself that He shall please him or her on the Day of Judgement.

In alternate narrations, the Prophet SAW said that the reward for saying this supplication is that he himself will take the person by the hand until he enters him into paradise.

Being content with a matter implies maintaining unchanged actions if that situation were under one’s control.

Imam Al-Nawawi said that contentment implies being convinced, sufficed, and desiring nothing more. The first matter, we affirm our contentment with Allah as our Lord, acknowledging His role as the ultimate decider.

This encompasses accepting all that Allah decrees, including provisions, the life chosen for us, trials bestowed upon us, and everything presented in our path.

The second matter is to be content with Islam as our religion, signifying wholehearted submission to Allah’s commandments.

Being content with Islam as your religion involves being content with every directive, prohibition, law, and punishment within this blessed religion.

The third and final matter is to be content with the Prophet Muhammad (SallaAllahu ‘alayhi wasallam) as our Prophet, the one who conveyed Allah’s message in its best and most comprehensive form.

Contentment with him involves acceptance of all his teachings, decisions, way of life, companions, marriages, and a firm belief in everything he conveys.
