It was narrated from ‘Uthman ibn Abi’l-‘As that he complained to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about a pain in his body that he had suffered from the time he became Muslim.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him: “Put your hand on the part of the body that hurts and say: Bismillah (three times), A’udhu Billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhir (seven times).

A person may worry that the pain will increase or that his illness will become more severe. This may cause a lot of anxiety.

This supplication is for seeking refuge in Allah from current pain, future complications, and the mental anguish associated with it.

Dua For Headache In Arabic

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaymīn said, “If a person says this prayer with conviction, believing that he will benefit from it, the pain will subside by the will of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic. This prayer is more effective than tangible medication (e.g., pills, syrup, and injections) because you are seeking refuge in the One in whose hand is the kingdom of the heavens and earth Who sent down the disease and Who will protect you from it.”

This is not an encouragement to not take conventional medicine. However, true healing is from Allah, the Healer (al-Shāfī). So we should pray to Allah to make any medication we use beneficial.

Etiquette of Dua

But over and above all that there must be sincerity towards Allah in the dua, and sincere turning to Him and humility before Him, and one should seek out the times when prayers are answered, for when a person raises his hand to Allah in dua, He is reluctant that the person should remain empty-handed.

Do not be hasty in seeking a response, for Allah may delay the answer for a reason that is known to Him, so you should be patient and have certain faith.

Remember that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Call upon Allah when you are certain of receiving a response, and remember that Allah does not answer a du`a that comes from a heedless heart.” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (3479); classed as hasan by al-Shawkani in Tuhfat al-Shakirin (68) and by al-Albani in al-Silsilah al-Sahihah (594)
