Surah 3 Qul in Arabic, English, Transliteration & Benefits

Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas collectively form the “Three Qul” or “Surah 3 Qul.” They are the 112th, 113th, and 114th chapters of the Quran, respectively. Reciting these chapters is believed to provide protection and seek refuge in Allah from various evils. They emphasize the oneness of Allah and His ability to safeguard believers.

Surah 3 Qul in Arabic, English and Transliteration

Surah Al-Ikhlas (Chapter 112):

• Emphasizes the oneness of Allah (Tawhid).
• Declares Allah is eternal, absolute, and does not have offspring nor is He born.
• Considered equivalent to one-third of the Quran in its message of monotheism.

1. Surah Al-Ikhlas in Arabic

قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ (١) اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ (٢) لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ (٣) وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ (٤)

Transliteration

1. Qul huwal Lahul Ahad
2. Allahus Samad
3. Lam yalid walam yuulad
4. Walam yakun lahu qufwan Ahad.

Surah in English

1. Say: He, Allah, is One.
2. Allah, Who is sought by all.
3. He begets not nor was He begotten
4. And there is none comparable to Him.

Surah Al-Falaq (Chapter 113):

• Seeks refuge in Allah from the evils of the night, emphasizing protection from unseen harm.
• Mentions seeking refuge from darkness, envy, and harmful creatures.
• Encourages reliance on Allah’s protection for safeguarding oneself from potential harms.

2. Surah Al-Falaq

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ (١) مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ (٢) وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ (٣) وَمِن شَرِّ النَّفَّاثَاتِ فِي الْعُقَدِ (٤) وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ (٥)

Transliteration

1. Qul a’oozu bi rabbil-falaq
2. Min sharri maa khalaq
3. Wa min sharri ghaasiqin izaa waqab
4. Wa min sharrin-naffaa-saati fil ‘uqad
5. Wa min sharri haasidin izaa hasad

Surah in English

1. Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak.
2. From the evil of what He created.
3. And from the evil of darkness when it settles.
4. And from the evil of the blowers in knots.
5. And from the evil of an envier when he envies.

Surah An-Nas (Chapter 114):

• Seeks refuge in Allah from the evils of mankind, emphasizing protection from both seen and unseen harm.
• Addresses seeking protection from the whispers of Satan and the malice of envious individuals.
• Highlights Allah’s role as the ultimate protector and refuge against all potential dangers.

3. Surah An-Nas

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ (١) مَلِكِ النَّاسِ (٢) إِلَهِ النَّاسِ (٣) مِن شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ (٤) الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ (٥) مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ (٦)

Transliteration

1. Qul auzo bi Rabbin Nass
2. Malikin Nass
3. Ilahin Nass
4. Min Sharril was waasil kannass
5. Allazi yu was wiyus fi sudurin Nass
6. Minal jinnati wannass

1. Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of humankind.
2. The Sovereign of humankind.
3. The God of humankind.
4. From the harm [and mischief] of the insidious whisperer.
5. Who whispers into the hearts of humankind.
6. From among the jinn and humankind.

Abdullah ibn Khubayb reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Speak.”

I said, “What should I say?” The Prophet said, “Say: He is Allah, the One, (112:1) and the two chapters of refuge, al-Falaq and al-Nas, every evening and morning three times. They will be enough for you against everything.”

Ibn ‘Abis al-Juhani reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him, “O Ibn ‘Abis, shall I not tell you about the best way to seek refuge for those who seek it?”

He said, “Of course, O Messenger of Allah.” The Prophet said, “These two chapters: Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak (113:1) and, Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of the people (114:1).”

3 Qul for protection

Abu Sa’id reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would seek refuge from jinn and the evil eye of man, until the two chapters of refuge were revealed, al-Falaq and al-Nas. After they were revealed, he held to them and left everything else.

‘Uqbah ibn ‘Amir reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Have you not seen the verses Allah revealed to me in the night? No one has seen the likes of them, ‘Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the people,’ (114:1) and, ‘Say; I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak.’” (113:1)

Aisha reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when anyone from his family was sick, he would blow over them with the two chapters of refuge.

When he was sick with the illness in which he died, I blew over him and wiped himself with his hands, as they had greater blessings than my hand.

Recite Surat al-Falaq After Every Prayer

Uqbah ibn ‘Amir reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded me to recite the two chapters of refuge, al-Falaq and al-Nas, at the end of every prayer.

Aisha reported: When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would lie down for sleep, he would blow into his hands, recite the two chapters of refuge, al-Falaq and al-Nas, and he would wipe his hands over his body.

Surat al-Ikhlas makes Paradise obligatory for him

Abu Huraira reported: I met with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he heard a man reciting the verses, “Say: He is Allah, the One, the Eternal Refuge,” (112:1-2). The Prophet said, “It is necessary for him.” I said, “What is necessary?” The Prophet said, “Paradise.”

Idolaters ask for the lineage of Allah Almighty

Ubayy ibn Ka’b reported: The idolaters asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, “Tell us the lineage of your Lord.” Then, Allah revealed the verse, “Say: He is Allah, the One, Allah the Eternal Refuge.” (112:1-2)

He asked Allah by His greatest name

Buraydah ibn al-Husayb reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, heard a man supplicating, saying, “O Allah, I ask you by my testimony that you are Allah, there is no God but you, the One, the Eternal Refuge, who does not give birth and was not born, and to whom no one is equal,” (112:1-4).

The Prophet said, “By the One in whose hand is my soul, he has asked Allah by His greatest name, for which He answers when called upon and He gives when asked.”

Love for Surat al-Ikhlas takes you to Paradise

Anas ibn Malik reported: A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, I love this chapter, ‘Say: He is Allah, the One,’” (112:1). The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Your love for it will admit you into Paradise.”

Surat al-Ikhlas worth one-third of Quran

Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported: A man heard another man reciting, “Say, He is Allah, the One,” (112:1) again and again.

The next morning he came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and told him about it, as if he thought it was not enough to recite.

The Prophet said, “By the One in whose hand is my soul, it is equal to a third of the Quran.”

Can you read a third of Quran in one night?

Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to his companions, “Is it difficult for one of you to recite a third of the Quran in a single night?”

That was difficult for them, so they said, “Which one of us can do that, O Messenger of Allah?” The Prophet said, “The chapter, ‘Allah, the One, the Refuge’ (112:1) is worth one-third of the Quran.”
